Saggar Firing Workshop with Kyong

Two-part sagger workshop at Mudgeeraba Studio.
Explore the fun and magic of alternative firings with this two-part workshop with Kyong at our Mudgeeraba studio.
The first workshop will be dedicated to making a vessel AND a saggar (container) for firing in the second workshop four weeks later.
A saggar is a specially made container that holds the pot in a nest of materials for its second firing. This process can produce an infinite range of results, depending on the ingredients placed inside the saggar with the pot. At the end of the firing the saggar is opened to reveal the magic that has occurred inside.
Kyong will guide participants through the process of either hand-building or throwing a pot and a saggar to fit it, as well as providing guidelines for shapes and sizes to ensure that items will fit into our raku kiln. The finished pieces will then be bisque fired in preparation for the second workshop four weeks later.
At the second workshop, participants with place their pots inside the saggar with a variety of combustibles and colorants that will be provided for the purpose. The closed saggar will then go through a final firing in the raku kiln to create the finished results.
Participants must commit to both workshops for this process.
The dates for EACH SEPARATE workshop are as follows:
Sunday 6 October 10am - 4pm: make pot and saggar at Mudgeeraba studio.
Sunday 3 November 10am - 4pm: firing of pot and saggar in Raku Kiln at Mudgeeraba studio.
Maximum 8 PAX
$200 for both workshops together (one workshop is not an option).
